Nikki’s Marathon!

17th October 2018

Nikki (pictured) has worked at The Close Hotel for 3 and a half years, where she is Reception Manager.

At the age of 35, she made a new year’s resolution to get fitter and healthier, so started running and has loved it ever since! We were therefore delighted when our chosen charity Acorns offered Nikki the opportunity to run the 2019 London Marathon. The furthest Nikki has run to date is 13 miles but the 26.2 mile-long marathon is a challenge that she is really looking forward to and training hard for – in fact, she recently took part in the Bournemouth Half Marathon for a scenic spot of training!

As a collection of hotels, we have been fundraising for Acorns Children’s Hospice for around 7 years and are delighted to have donated over £100,000 in total thanks to our generous colleagues and guests.

Acorns is a brilliant charity that provides specialist palliative care for life limited and life threatened babies, children and young people (and their families) across the heart of England. In the last year Acorns has supported 865 children and 1,088 families, including those who are bereaved, at their three dedicated hospices.

Looking to raise as much money as possible for Acorns, Nikki says…

“It’s a fantastic cause and I’m really hoping to smash my £2,500 target! If you are able to sponsor me, there are charity dishes on the menu at The Close as well as ‘cake of the month’ and collection tins in reception. We’ll also be running a series of prize draws and raffles on the run-up to the Marathon on 28th April so please keep an eye out!”
