History

Kingston upon Thames is a medieval market town famed for its royal connections, which date back to the 10th century. It hosted the coronation ceremonies of a number of Saxon Kings, including Edward the Elder, all the way back in 902.

A large stone recovered from the ruins of the chapel of St Mary, which is believed to have been the site where the coronations took place, is regarded as the Coronation Stone. Today, this ancient artifact can be seen in the grounds of the Guildhall, a 20-minute walk from The Queen’s Head.v

The pub dates back to the 1890s, but received a major facelift in 2016, reopening its doors to the public in June to show off the addition of our luxurious new boutique bedrooms. It’s since become the go-to place to dine, drink and stay in Kingston.
